Support for Efforts to Address Economic Mobility and Poverty
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: Voices for Economic Opportunity
Through the Voices for Economic Opportunity challenge, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation seeks to elevate new and diverse voices that can help broaden the conversation about the issues underlying economic mobility in the United States. The focus is on proposals for creative ways to generate awareness of the structural and historic barriers to economic mobility, to communicate that poverty is not just something that happens to other people and everyone is deserving of the chance to move out of it, and to change the predominant misconceptions about poverty in a way that creates the conditions for effective programs and policies to be adopted by the public and private sectors. Applicants from any type of organization (colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, nonprofit organizations, and for-profit companies) may apply for a $100,000 grant to develop their ideas. Film Festivals and Filmmaker Education Initiatives Funded
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: Academy Grants Program
The Academy Grants Program, an initiative of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, seeks to inspire imagination and connect the world through the medium of motion pictures. The program is currently accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations in two areas: FilmWatch grants support curated screening programs at North America-based film festivals, film societies, and other film-related organizations. Targeted programs include those that create culturally diverse viewing experiences, promote motion pictures as an art form, provide a platform for underrepresented artists, and cultivate new and dedicated audiences for theatrical film. The application deadline is November 1, 2019. FilmCraft grants support high-quality educational programs worldwide that identify and empower future filmmakers from nontraditional backgrounds. Targeted programs include those that encourage an appreciation of film as both a vocation and an art form, and those that provide hands-on opportunities for participants to gain the filmmaking skills they need to tell their stories. Grants Enhance Youth Running Programs
Saucony Run for Good Foundation
The Saucony Run for Good Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children by helping to prevent and reduce childhood obesity. Grants of up to $10,000 are provided to nonprofit community organizations that initiate and support youth running programs. Program participants must be 18 years of age or younger. Priority will be given to programs that serve youth populations not traditionally exposed to running programs. Grant requests are reviewed two times per year; the next application deadline is December 15, 2019. In-Kind Advertising Support for Nonprofits Worldwide
Google Ad Grants
The Google Ad Grants program supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and more than 50 additional countries that help to make the world a better place. Google Ad Grants is a unique in-kind advertising program that harnesses the power of the company's flagship advertising product, Google AdWords. Through the program, selected organizations receive $10,000 per month in in-kind AdWords advertising to promote their missions and initiatives on Google.com. The program has awarded AdWords advertising to a wide range of nonprofit organizations whose missions range from animal welfare to literacy, and from supporting homeless children to promoting HIV education. Funds for Washington State Organizations Addressing Inequity
Washington Women’s Foundation: Pooled Fund Grants
The vision of the Washington Women’s Foundation is to change the course of women’s philanthropy through the power of collective giving. Every year the Foundation awards five large impact Pooled Fund Grants to nonprofit organizations in Washington State. Grants of up to $100,000 are provided—one in each of these funding areas: arts and culture, education, environment, health, and human services. The Foundation seeks to support organizations that are focused on providing services to people affected by inequity, that have the expertise to do the work, and that are accountable to the people served in order to achieve the long-term goals of increasing equity and reducing disparities. While the Foundation does fund programs and projects, including capital projects, organizations are encouraged to apply for general operating and capacity-building support. Grants Promote Energy Conservation in New Jersey
Sustainable Jersey Grants Program: Gardinier Environmental Fund
The Sustainable Jersey Grants Program helps local governments in New Jersey make progress toward a sustainable future in general, and specifically toward Sustainable Jersey certification. The Gardinier Environmental Fund is contributing $150,000 to support a Sustainable Jersey Grants Program for municipal governments and public school districts. For this grant cycle, funds will be provided for energy projects focused on conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy. The Fund is particularly interested in innovative energy projects that take a comprehensive approach to meeting advanced energy conservation objectives, such as achieving net-zero energy buildings. Two $30,000 grants and nine $10,000 grants will be awarded. The application deadline is October 31, 2019. Visit the Sustainable Jersey website to download the Application Information Package.

Support for Vocational Training Programs in Alaska
The Alaska Community Foundation: Vocational Fund for Alaska’s Future
The Alaska Community Foundation envisions an Alaska where communities come together and have resources to thrive. The Foundation’s Vocational Fund for Alaska’s Future supports projects that sharpen vocational skills and contribute to the competitiveness of Alaska’s natural resource and overall economy. Proposed projects should focus on efforts to build a skilled workforce in Alaska’s natural resource development industries, with a preference for the oil, gas, and mining industries. Projects that build and refine skills that cut across a variety of vocational industries and sectors will be especially competitive, as will projects that build career awareness and employability skills, and promote cross-sector skill acquisition. Preference will be given to projects that are located in rural Alaska or programs that reach rural communities in Alaska. Grants typically range from $10,000 to $50,000. Nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, local government agencies, and tribes are eligible to apply. Applications will be accepted through October 24, 2019. Programs Impacting Women, Children, and Families in the DC Region Funded
Many Hands
Many Hands is committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of women, children, and families in need in the Washington, DC, region, including Washington, DC; Northern Virginia; and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, MD. Many Hands will provide four grants in 2020, one in each of the following focus areas: education, health, housing, and job readiness. Of the four grantees, one will receive a $100,000 Impact Grant, and three will receive Partner Grants, the value of which will be determined by the total amount raised during Many Hands’ 2019-2020 grant cycle. Applying organizations must have been in operation for at least five years and have a budget of at least $500,000. The application deadline for the 2020 grant cycle is November 15, 2019. Program Helps Young Children With Hearing Issues

The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program supports comprehensive and coordinated state and territory EHDI systems of care so families with newborns, infants, and young children up to three years of age who are deaf or hard-of-hearing receive appropriate and timely services that include hearing screening, diagnosis, and early intervention. The application deadline is November 8, 2019.

Watershed Management Efforts Supported
Department of the Interior
The WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Program provides support to develop watershed groups, complete watershed restoration planning activities, and design watershed management projects. The goal is to leverage federal and non-federal funding to support stakeholder efforts to stretch scarce water supplies and avoid conflicts over water. The application deadline is November 13, 2019.

When it comes to streamlining your accounting process, utilizing the download feature in QuickBooks is a huge game changer and will literally cut the time you spend dealing with your books in half. We are very excited to have Gregg Bossen, a CPA specializing in nonprofits and president of QuickBooks Made Easy for Nonprofits, present this one of a kind and highly requested webinar. In this session, Gregg will cover how to connect your bank and credit card accounts to your QuickBooks; downloading of transactions for free; pointing downloaded transactions to account, programs, and grants; creating “rules” in QuickBooks so that the downloaded transactions are preassigned to the correct categories; matching downloaded transactions that have already been entered manually to avoid double entry; and matching downloaded deposits (bank accounts only) to existing items in QuickBooks. There will also be time for your questions. The webinar for people who use the DESKTOP version of QuickBooks will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Choosing the right words is key if you want approval for your grant request, or to secure any financial contribution. Your case should define and describe WHY you do what you do, WHO you do it for, HOW your work is relevant, and WHAT IT TAKES financially to do it. A powerful, well-written case inspires action. Too often a case for support is dry, long-winded, written by committee, and rarely read after it is created. This high-energy, interactive webinar, presented by Lori Jacobwith, will shift how you craft a case for support. By the time this session is over, you will (1) understand what a case for support is and why it’s critical to craft before asking for money; (2) identify key words to include in your case for support; and (3) learn how to succinctly answer seven simple questions that must be answered in any case for support. This webinar is ideal for new and intermediate grantwriters. The webinar will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019.
