Support for Innovative Human Services Organizations
MENTOR Network Charitable Foundation: Community Partners
The MENTOR Network Charitable Foundation works to build on The Network’s innovative approach to human services by seeking new solutions and creative ideas for enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries and other catastrophic injuries and illnesses; youth facing emotional, behavioral, and medically complex challenges; and elders in need of support. The Foundation’s Community Partners program provides grants to nonprofit organizations that are acting as change agents within human services benefiting these populations by delivering innovative care or developing new ideas and models for doing so. The program accepts grant requests ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. The upcoming deadline for letters of interest is November 15, 2019. Children’s Oral Health Initiatives Funded
AAPD Foundation: Access to Care Grants
The AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) Foundation is committed to supporting community-based initiatives throughout the United States that provide Dental Homes to children whose families cannot afford dental care. The Foundation offers Access to Care Grants of up to $20,000 for initiatives that provide dental care and ultimately serve as a Dental Home to underserved/limited access children. Special consideration will be given to initiatives that support the age-one dental visit, emphasize care to patients up to age five, address the needs of specific underserved demographic groups, and incorporate systemic health, i.e., diabetes, cancer, etc. Online proposals must be submitted by December 20, 2019. The Glaser Progress Foundation
The Glaser Progress Foundation aims to build a more just, sustainable, and humane world by supporting nonprofit organizations with a national focus and a strong history of success and recognized leadership within its field. The Foundation is currently accepting application letters in the following program areas: The mission of the Measuring Progress program is to build a better future by improving our understanding and measurement of human progress. The Independent Media program works to strengthen democracy by fostering independent voices and giving voice to the world’s silent majority. Scholarships for Youth Addressing Hunger Issues
Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation: Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships
The Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships, funded by the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, recognize student innovation and youth-led solutions to fight hunger across the country. Applicants must have demonstrated ongoing commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months. Students between the ages of five and 25 are eligible to apply. The winners receive a $5,000 scholarship, as well as a $5,000 grant made in their name to the hunger-related charity of their choice in their local community. In addition, regional honorees receive a $1,000 grant made in their name to the hunger-related charity of their choice. Applications may be submitted through December 5, 2019. Minnesota Nonprofits Eligible for Technology Support
Shavlik Family Foundation
The Shavlik Family Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations in Minnesota with the goal of enhancing their ability to leverage technology to help fulfill their missions. The emphasis is on information and technology resources that remove barriers or build capacity for nonprofits and their clients. The Foundation does not focus on the size, location, or services provided by an organization, but looks to fund the technology projects that will have the greatest impact on an organization or the Minnesota community it serves. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $30,000. Online letters of inquiry may be submitted from November 1 through December 1, 2019; invited full proposals will be due February 15, 2020. Funds for Programs Serving Alabama’s Youth
The Malone Family Foundation
The mission of the Malone Family Foundation is to promote positive changes in the lives of people, who in turn can build and enhance the communities in which they live. The Foundation primarily supports nonprofit organizations in the state of Alabama. The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on programs that expand the horizons of and opportunities for children and young adults. Initiatives whose direct objectives are providing better education, promoting self-esteem, and instilling in its beneficiaries a desire to improve oneself are of special interest. Preference is given to creative programs in the area of education from pre-kindergarten through higher education. Letters of inquiry are due November 15, 2019; the deadline for invited proposals is December 15, 2019. Visit the Foundation’s website to learn more about the application process.

Grants Foster Anti-Racism Throughout New England
Haymarket People’s Fund
The Haymarket People’s Fund is committed to strengthening the movement for social justice throughout the six states of New England. The Fund envisions a world free of racism and other oppressions where peace and cooperation flourish, where people are valued for their gifts and able to bring their whole selves to humanity, where vibrant communities thrive and different cultures are celebrated, and where opportunities are equally shared while honoring the earth and all within it. The Fund provides Sustaining Grants, ranging up to $10,000, for grassroots social change organizations that are committed to strengthening anti-racist movement building in the New England region. The Fund supports both urban and rural organizing across the region, and funds startup and emerging organizations as well as groups that have a long history of grassroots organizing. Organizations that have not been funded by Haymarket during the past three years must speak with a staff person prior to submitting a request. Support for Legal Aid Organizations in Montana
Montana Justice Foundation: Community Opportunity Grants
The Montana Justice Foundation is dedicated to achieving equal access to justice for all Montanans. The Foundation’s Community Opportunity Grants support legal aid organizations that provide foreclosure prevention legal assistance and/or community redevelopment legal assistance. Foreclosure Prevention Legal Assistance strategies include a broad range of options such as advice and counsel, representation, mediation programs, and policy and impact work. Community Development Legal Assistance efforts provide legal representation and technical expertise to assist residents with neighborhood revitalization programs that stimulate local economic and commercial development, housing development, the delivery of social services, and other activities that improve the quality of life for people living in low-income communities. Nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions are eligible to apply. The application deadline is November 30, 2019. Institute of Museum and Library Services
The Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries program supports projects that strengthen the ability of small or rural libraries and archives to serve their communities. Topics of interest include transforming school library practice, community memory, and digital inclusion. The application deadline is December 2, 2019.

Historic Properties and Collections Preserved
National Park Service
The Save America’s Treasures program helps preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey the nation’s rich heritage to future generations of Americans. Grants are made in two categories: preservation projects for properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places or listed as a National Historic Landmark, and projects involving collections, including artifacts, museum collections, documents, sculptures, and other works of art. The application deadline is December 10, 2019.

Capacity building grants are unique. While many best practices in writing operational or program grant requests apply to developing capacity building grant requests, there are some critical differences that need to be addressed to create the strongest application possible. During the 90-minute webinar, Alice Ruhnke will define and discuss the fundamentals of capacity building grant requests, highlight the key components that differ from “regular” grants, and outline ways to identify funders who provide capacity building grants. Throughout the session, common mistakes in writing capacity building grant requests will be discussed and remedied. This webinar is appropriate for individuals who have a basic understanding of grant fundamentals and would like to apply those concepts specifically to capacity building grants.
