Support for Programs Promoting the Human-Animal Bond in the U.S. and Canada
PetSmart Charities

PetSmart Charities supports nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and animal welfare organizations in the U.S. and Canada whose companion animal programs help enrich lives through the human-animal bond. The following grant programs are available: Adoptions, Transport, Adoption Prep, Preserving Families, Animal-Assisted Therapy, Veterinarian Schools, and Improving Access to Care. (PetSmart Charities also offers veterinary research grants for professionals and students.) The funding guidelines and application deadlines vary by program. Nursing-Driven Healthcare Approaches Funded
Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation: Hillman Innovations in Care Program

The goal of the Hillman Innovations in Care Program, an initiative of the Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation, is to advance leading-edge, nursing-driven models of care that will improve the health and healthcare of vulnerable populations. The program seeks to support patient- and family-centered approaches that challenge conventional strategies, improve health outcomes, lower costs, and show potential for national replicability. The Foundation specifically seeks proposals that address the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations in the following areas: Maternal and Child Health, Care of the Older Adult, and Chronic Illness Management. In 2020, at least two grants of up to $600,000 will be awarded to nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or faith-based organizations. The application deadline is March 2, 2020; invited full proposals will be due June 1, 2020. Visit the Foundation's website to access the 2020 request for proposals.

Grants Strengthen Services for People With Autism
Autism Speaks: Local Impact Grant Program

Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Through the Local Impact Grant Program, Autism Speaks funds nonprofit organizations that provide people with autism with social and educational experiences. The focus is on local services throughout the U.S. that enhance the lives of those affected by autism spectrum disorders. Careful consideration will be given to applications that specifically address the needs of underserved communities, which can include rural towns, non-English speaking populations, and other vulnerable groups. Projects to Enhance Climbing Opportunities Supported
Access Fund: Climbing Conservation Grant Program

The Access Fund's Climbing Conservation Grant Program supports projects that preserve or enhance climbing opportunities and conserve the climbing environment throughout the United States. The focus is on projects that demonstrate local climber support, collaboration with land managers, and a commitment to long-term change. Requests are accepted from local climbing groups, governmental agencies, conservation organizations, and land trusts, as well as individuals who wish to sponsor a local project. Most grants are in the range of $1,000 to $4,000. Requests are reviewed two times per year; the application deadlines are March 1 and August 1, annually. Opportunities for Specific Areas

Funds for Theatrical Productions in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska
The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation: Social Impact Theatre Grant Program

The mission of the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation is to invest in bold ideas that inspire collective action in order to achieve powerful results. The Foundation's Social Impact Theatre Grant Program provides funding to nonprofit organizations in Alaska, California, Oregon, and Washington for contemporary, professional, theatrical productions that deal with current social issues. The Foundation supports productions accompanied by partnerships and engagement plans that will create an important conversation within the community about a highly relevant and timely social issue. The focus is on theatres tackling issues ranging broadly from institutional racism and mental illness to income inequality and immigrant rights. Applying organizations must have an annual revenue of at least $1,000,000 for the two most recently-completed fiscal years. Letters of inquiry must be submitted by February 28, 2020; invited full applications will be due May 8, 2020. Grants Expand Legal Services and the Administration of Justice in Massachusetts
Massachusetts Bar Foundation: IOLTA Grants Program

The Massachusetts Bar Foundation is committed to improving the administration of justice, to promoting an understanding of the law, and to ensuring equal access to the legal system for all residents of the Commonwealth, particularly those most vulnerable. Each year, the Foundation's IOLTA Grants Program awards grants to nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts whose programs either provide civil legal services to the state's low-income population or improve the administration of justice. These grants enable recipients to provide critical assistance to those who have few resources to address legal issues, including domestic violence, housing, immigration status, child advocacy, family law, discrimination, and healthcare. Mississippi Communities Striving for Health and Wellness Honored
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation: Healthy Hometown Awards Program

The Healthy Hometown Awards Program, an initiative of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation, rewards exemplary community health and wellness in Mississippi. This program assists municipal leaders throughout the state in their efforts to make their communities—and ultimately the state—a healthier place to live. The Foundation may award a "Healthy Hometown" grant to one hometown, or to multiple hometowns, each at $50,000, regardless of municipality population. The application deadline is March 5, 2020. Support for Environmental and Economic Efforts in Targeted Communities
Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation: Sustainable Forests and Communities Initiative

The Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation's Sustainable Forests and Communities Initiative works to promote the creation of environmentally and economically sustainable forest communities in Northern California, Idaho, Minnesota, Western Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. The Foundation is interested in supporting organizations that work in forested landscapes to enhance the environment, the economy, and the community. Grants generally average $25,000 or less. The deadline for Stage One Applications is March 1, 2020; invited Stage Two Applications are due August 1, 2020. Visit the Foundation's website to review the Initiative's guidelines.

Program Supports Mental Health Initiatives in Native Communities
Department of Health and Human Services

The Planning and Developing Infrastructure to Promote the Mental Health of Children, Youth, and Families in American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) Communities program provides tribal and urban Indian communities with tools and resources to plan and design a holistic, evidence and community-based, coordinated system of care to support mental health for children, youth, and families. These grants are intended to increase the capacity and effectiveness of mental health systems serving AI/AN communities. The program has a strong emphasis on cross-system collaboration; inclusion of family, youth, and community resources; and cultural approaches. The application deadline is March 9, 2020.

Department of Homeland Security

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program offers support to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. This program seeks to provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience. The application deadline is March 13, 2020.
